Post Weight Loss Surgery

I am very excited to say that I lost over 100 pounds and well on my way to loosing another 50! I will definitely need cosmetic surgery when I reach my goal weight. In the mean time, I have a few questions I hope you could address.

Q: I am interested in weight loss surgery. Does “stable weight loss for at least 6 months”, mean no weight gain for 6 months before my surgery?

A: To benefit the most from your Body Lift procedure, it would be ideal to be at your goal weight for 6 months prior to surgery. If you have surgery and then continue to lose more than 10-15 lbs you may require further touch-ups.

Q: Do I need a referral from my family doctor to have a consult with Dr. Islur for weight loss surgery?

A: You do not need to have a referral to see me. Just call to reserve your consultation and I would be happy to see you.

Q: Is weight loss surgery performed at your private surgical centre or at the hospital?

A: Depending on how many procedures are being done at one time (ie. Breast Lift, Arm Lift, Tummy Tuck), length of surgery, or pre-existing medical conditions that require a hospital stay, surgery may have to be done at the hospital.

Q: Are weight loss procedures covered by MB Health? If my Body Lift is not covered by MB Health, what is the approximate cost?

A: Some components of the procedure may be covered  by MB Health if deemed medically necessary; however, the entire procedure would not be covered by MB Health. This would be best answered and explained in a consultation. The cost of the procedure varies depending on the type of procedures being performed. Most surgeons including myself have now begun to address the front of the abdomen first and then address the back six months later with respects to a body lift.
